I just got a new (actually, slightly used) Taylor 562ce 12-string and am really enjoying it. I haven’t quite got it figured out yet but I love the sound it makes. Here is a version of Aloha Oe in G taro patch, a little rough in spots but you can hear the big sound it makes:
Let me know what you think! I’ve never had a 12-string before and this one is really blowing my mind, as we used to say. 😉

Beautiful Andy! What a gorgeous 12 string. Nice arrangement of Aloha Oe in Taro Patch tuning. I love all the Gabby albums where he used the 12 string (he took the most solos on the Gabby or “Brown” album) and Cyril Pahinui’s 6 and 12 String Slack Key album on Dancing Cat Records(one of my all-time favorite recordings.) He uses the CGEGCE and CGEGAE tunings on the 12 string and the resonance is amazing.10/19/2020 at 5:17 am #17017
Those two albums were on my “heavy rotation” list as I pondered whether to buy a 12-string or not. You can see what I decided!! I will have to try those tunings on the 12 soon.

The 12 string sound is so lovely. I don’t have one-yet

Congratulations Andy on your new 12-string! Welcome to the club!
I’ve been playing mine since I was 18 and it’s like an old friend now.
Here is a little song I wrote last year called Sea Monkey Slack, hope you like it:)10/29/2020 at 6:21 am #17089
That tune is just lovely!! I really like the happy spirit of that one, it’s just as welcome a lift in October as it was in April. I happen to have my 12 set up in C tuning right now, just watching you has given me ideas on thing to try out.

You have a very good ear to recognize it is in C tuning Andy! Hence the title Sea (c) monkey;)

LOL, I didn’t get the pun, that’s very nice! Actually my ear is not THAT good, your notes to the video where you posted it on Facebook mentioned the C tuning. But having played around with it a bit now, I think you might be using a different C tuning than what I’ve got on my 12 at the moment — I am in Atta’s C — C G E G C E — and the positions I saw you using in your tune don’t seem to work there. Or maybe I just misread where your fingers were.

You are putting it to good use. Love the deep resonance, but at the same time crisp jangle on the top. Really nice arrangement.11/18/2020 at 6:59 pm #17271
Thanks, Ivo! I am playing it every day and getting more comfortable with it, and with Atta’s C tuning.

I’m pretty novice with 12 string. Is Atta’s C most used tuning in 12 string slack key? It sounds nice. I think it’s pretty hard to change tunings with 12 string, a small nightmare perhaps. Your purchase has put me to think 12 string too. I’ve looked some 2nd hand ones but most of them are dreadnoughts that is too big size for my taste.
Well my possible purchase will take quite some time as I will get a new classical guitar built specially with my requirements. That will be to play in standard tuning only, I will try some classical tunes later when it’s built.

No, I wouldn’t say that Atta’s C is the most commonly-used tuning for 12-strings. But lately I’ve been very enamored of Cyril Pahinui’s 12-string playing, and it was his most commonly-used tuning, so I decided to go with it. We’ll see how far I get!
